Liberation Day! Some people manage to attain adulthood without too many problems; some, take a little longer; others have to be dragged there kicking and screaming; some, for one reason or another, never get there at all. We have recently observed the third in the previous list. The phenomenon of the puer aeternus and the puella aeternus, is an ever-growing problem in our culture. The real issue is that no-one knows about, or wants to, look at themselves. Living in unconsciousness is the preference of the masses. And then people wonder why the world is in such a profound mess.

On Thursday I managed to reach the end of the sketch for the emerging marimba and piano piece. At the same time a title has also emerged. This has been surprising but at the same time it's been of no surprise. At 17-52, as I walked over the railway bridge ready to collect Christopher and Helen from the station, it occurred to me that the recent work with David Cross has had a profound effect on my composing work, largely in the way I now approach things. This new/old way of working was something I always knew from my playing with rock bands during the 1970's, but something I forgot during my period of study in the 1980's and '90's.
